Animal Art

Welcome to a selection from my collection of animal paintings, where each piece reflects my passion for capturing the beauty and essence of the animal kingdom. Through vibrant colours and details, I invite you to explore the unique stories of these magnificent creatures. I hope you enjoy viewing this selection and find a connection. I'm also ready to paint a portrait of your pet if you would like.

Feline Inspiration

As an Introduction , my first picture was this close up image of a black cat. This is where my artistic journey started and continues to inspire me today.

Changing Habitats

This piece entitled "Whose Environment?" is a more evocative piece which not only depicts wildlife but what many of our species are facing in their natural habitat

Drybrush Drawings

Drybrush Drawings

Drawing with Drybrush oil is one of the most expressive art techniques. It allows for bold, dramatic contrasts as well as delicate subtle shading. For the materials used, black oil is used together with a plastic eraser. The paper is normally medium to heavy textured which hold the  paint better.

This technique is a cross between oil painting and charcoal drawing. The oil can shift from velvety blacks to faint grays, using the eraser as a drawing tool, allowing for dramatic moods and atmospheric effects.

The Owl drawing here was inspired by a visit to the local zoo, which then led me to try some drybrush painting. I wanted to include these animal pictures demonstrating this different technique.
